Book Title: "The Hunger Games"
Author: Suzanne Collins
"I first read this book while on vacation and could not put it down! The Hunger Games is a GREAT book! It has a thrilling story, and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time you are reading it. It is a romantic, violent book that I wouldn't recommend for kids under 12.
Suzanne Collins has a fabulous imagination because this book is set in the future. In the book the nation Panem has taken over North America and created 12 Districts. In the middle of the Districts lies the Capitol with evil President Snow, who is the villian. The opressed people rebelled long ago and now, to showcase their power over the Districts, the Capitol and President Snow hold the annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is an event that the people are forced to participate in. Two "tributes" from each district are picked and put into an arena that is booby-trapped. All the weapons/food/supplies are put in the middle in a great Cornucopia. The object of the Hunger Games is to become the victor in which you can only succeed in if you kill everybody else. Essentially the only way to stay alive is if you kill everybody else in the arena.
Katniss Everdeen lives in hungry District 12 and has to provide for her mother and sister. When her sister's name is called for the Hunger Games Katniss volunteers to take her sister's place. Katniss has no hope of coming back. The book is very sad, violent, sweet, romantic...I HIGHLY recommend teens to read it!
The Hunger Games is a trilogy and has two books after that called Catching Fire (2) and Mockingjay (3)."
